許士軍教授演講心得/黃資赫

Professor Hsu opens his speech with interesting misconceptions about management. Then he leads to what really defines management. He is both humorous and informative, which made the usually cold subject very lively.

From examples in different fields such as movie entertainment to gambling, Professor Hsu slowly introduces the role of management in real world practices. He demonstrate the importance of understanding cross-field teamwork rather than specialization in one field by listing examples of successful managements. Hsu believes that the true value of management is to organize and direct a team of specialized people. In other words managerial position is not to complete task individually, but through understanding of operation, lead people to complete a task smoothly. Thus the misconception of management as empty, hollow study is broken since contemporary complex projects often require the cooperation of professionals from completely different fields. And without managers in projects, it is as impossible to complete tasks as fighting a war without a general.
