Cultivating Failure - Process in Product Design
培育失敗 於產品設計之中

【 Cre8Design介紹 】

 
公司走向分為產品設計線及策略規劃類,曾與多間知名公司如IBM、Dell等合作,產品「Icon7 - Presenter Mouse」獲得國內外共十三項大獎肯定,「Icon7 - Touch BT - Headset」獲得2011年iF產品設計獎,其包裝設計亦相當出色,為產品做出很好的呈現。於「Thermos - Wok」製作期間因必須熟悉料理工具而嘗試去做菜料理進行研究。
「CORSAIR®」於數天前獲得2013 iF Product Design Award獎,產品包括電腦主機、鍵盤、滑鼠、音響和iPad Case等,主機外殼上的Restart鍵運用打火機開蓋方式,非常有特色。

為什麼大家都喜愛Apple ─
不僅是它的外觀,它的設計充滿細節,全方面的考量,以及以設計為第一考量。例:Acer 的產品設計線能力低於工程技術部門,所以它的外觀比內在略差。

設計過程 (任何產業都適用,Ex. Pixar, fashion etc… ) ─
Ideation (Brainstorming) → Concept (Sketch) → Prototype (Paper, Form) → CAD (ProE) → Final Design (Appearance model)

雖然設計有一定的流程,但許多公司卻步願意偷時間精力投入創新。

• Make rough real models early
• 5127 prototypes in 5 years
• Constant trail and error
• Look at other things
• Picasso, "Good artist copy - Great artists steal."
• Steve Jobs, "We have been shameless about stealing great ideas!"
• Xerox "Star" - 1983

Inspiration - Improve and adapt
Thomas Alva Edison copied other people ideas, too.
Humphry Davy - 1800 → Joseph Swan - 1860 (copied) → Thomas Alva Edison - 1880 (copied)
• 1000 light bulbs did not work
• T.A. Edison, "I didn't fail 1000 times; I discovered 1000 ways not to make a light bulb!"

• Science has luxury of time
• Time = Money
• Design need to fail early and improve quickly

• Many concepts = many failures
but…
• Failures regarded as bad
• In Asian Culture even more

• Failures are not bad!
• Failure are problems to be solved
• Designers job is solving problems!
remember,
• Make many failures!
• Improve and perfect!
• Make failures part of your process

•Many failures in your process AND solving them
leads to GREAT PRODUCT!

• Allow time for the full process!
• Allow enough steps for innovation!
• Steal, improve,get inspired by the world!
• Make failures, be proud about it!
