Miss Wei Wei Chang gave a very precise speech about her
background and Gaya, a brand she established with her family in 2003.
Creative director, Wei Wei, a graduate of the Royal College
of Art in London, Scuola del Cuoio in Italy and Emily Carr Institute of Art and
Design in Canada has background in fashion accessory design, as well as fine
arts and traditional leather smithing, While two of her sisters in the family
business have backgrounds in business administration and marketing.
Gaya originated from Vancouver B.C., starting with fashion
accessories before moving into handbags. Wei Wei mentioned they have plans to
add other leather-based products to their portfolio such as shoes. However,
they’ll still remain a 100% female brand, and target customers between the ages
20-40. Gaya’s motive is very simple a very simple - to provide customers with
handbags that are exclusive in design, high quality and surprisingly
affordable. Their bags cost between NT3000 – NT8000.
Gaya carefully manages each and every step of their design
and production, aiming to achieve a good blend between traditional
craftsmanship, the use of high quality materials and distinctive creativity.
Gaya strives each season to create a “great bag” that makes all the difference.
Although it is still considered a young brand, it
has steadily gained its reputation in the fashion industry, receiving very
positive feedback from customers worldwide. Gaya has also caught plenty of
attention from the press in their few years, which includes features in
Chatelaine and Elle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rL_3gMvghY&list=UUgxQfF8vrdmiI644nxyU9ZQ&index=1&feature=plcp
